Kettering Professional Firefighters Local 2150 Participate

In Structural Collapse Training

Kettering, Oct. 25 2000 – Kettering local 2150 members receiving training on collapsed structures such as those damaged in the Xenia tornado.

Five career firefighters from the City of Kettering will be participating in a structural collapse class offered by Sinclair Community College.  The structural collapse class is part of the Basic Emergency Rescue Technician Course.  The B.E.R.T. class is utilized by Miami Valley Urban Search and Rescue Task Force and by Ohio Task Force 1 of F.E.M.A.  Professional firefighter Dave Tritch, of the Kettering Fire Department and other members of the Miami Valley Urban Search and Rescue Task Force will teach the class.  The class teaches emergency shoring for collapsed structures, the same situations found in Xenia after the recent tornado.

Also enrolled in the class are two career firefighters from Piqua Fire Department, one career firefighter from Beavercreek Fire Department and a canine specialist from the Miami Valley Urban Search and Rescue Task Force. The class will utilize a house donated by the developers of Ashbury Meadows. Ironically, this house once belonged to retired fire chief Bob Menker formally of the Miamisburg Fire Department.
