KETTERING PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTERS LOCAL 2150 PROUDLY INTRODUCES THE CITY’S FIRST 24 HR. STAFFED FIRE APPARATUS IN THE CITY’S HISTORY.

On January 1, 2001 Kettering Fire Department introduced its first 24-hr. staffed fire apparatus in the city’s history. This is the first change in nighttime staffing since 1977. This unique fire apparatus known as Squad 33, is staffed with four professional Firefighter/Paramedics and advanced life support equipment. The squad personnel will add to the two Advanced Life Support paramedic units placed in service in 1977. Squad 33 will be utilized as a third medical unit with another piece of apparatus making the transport to the hospital. This will ensure rapid on scene times for early Advanced Life Support, to increase survivability of the citizens of Kettering.  Squad 33 is equipped with state of the art fire suppression capabilities that include: Class A foam, full compliment of tools, and the City’s only thermal imaging camera. With this change in staffing, the city will for the first time, utilize a professional Captain as the 24-hr. supervisor. This is being accomplished with the Captain who will be responsible for daily operations, including staffing and scene management, of the professional firefighters.

Kettering Firefighters Local 2150 has been working with the city administration and fire department officials in improving response times of fire apparatus at night and the addition of more Advanced Life Support units. In April 1999 Kettering Firefighters Local 2150 introduced a plan calling for 24-hr. staffing of three Advanced Life Support fire apparatus. While we are disappointed our staffing proposal was not implemented, we are encouraged by the addition of Squad 33. Kettering Professional Firefighters Local 2150 recognizes that the City of Kettering was “Founded On Progress”, and would like to play an active role in improving service to the citizens of Kettering.
Note to Assignment Editor: Photo opportunity of Squad 33 available at Fire Headquarters, 2861 Bobbie Pl. Kettering Oh.
