The professional firefighters of the International Association of Firefighters local 2150 won the award under the community services category. President Joel Busch received this award presented by the Kettering, Moraine, and Oakwood chamber of commerce. This was the tenth annual Enterprise Spirit Awards that “recognizes organizations that have made significant contributions to the Miami Valley.” Several prominent local businesspersons, and local 2150 members and their families attended the ceremony. Kettering Local 2150 was recognized for contributions to the community. These contributions included pushing for a 24 hour-a-day professionally staffed Squad/Engine. This vehicle designated Squad-33 is the first 24 hour-a-day professionally staffed suppression vehicle in the city’s history. This is first change in nighttime staffing in twenty-three years.

  The Local has also brought Christmas to 65 families, including over 135 children in their annual Adopt-A-Family program. We have donated over $12,000 annually to the Muscular Dystrophy Association through softball tournaments and “filling the boot.” We have collected aluminum cans for seven years, allowing us to donate an average of $7,500 annually to the Miami Valley Burn Victim’s Fund. This September we embarked on a special can collection and T-shirt sale and raised $20,000 in fourteen days to give to the victims of September 11th tragedies in New York City and Washington D.C.
