Firefighters and Police Fight Cancer

The Kettering Professional Firefighters and Kettering Police join forces to fight cancer.  Kettering Police Officer Debbie Warner vowed to ride her bike in an effort to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Inspired by the heroic battle waged against Leukemia by the young son of a close friend, Warner joined the Team in Training (TNT) to ride bicycles raising money for research and treatment.  With the challenge from the firefighters of IAFF Local 2150 to match funds, Warner raised $5000 for the event.  The 14 members of the southern Ohio group of TNT successfully raised a total of $58,000.   Three months of training and over 600 miles of riding culminated in the 100 mile ride around Lake Tahoe in Tahoe, California.  The grueling century ride included the 800 foot inclination of Emerald Bay and the 1000 foot elevation of Spooner Junction. The combined national team of TNT brought in $6.2 million for the event.  Warner said that she could not have succeeded without the support from the members of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 2150 and the members of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 92.
